Sterling is the unincorporated area in Loudoun County, VA located around 26 miles west of Washington, D.C. It is west of Reston and east of Ashburn (view map ). Sterling is the official name of the area with the zip codes 20164, 20165, and 20166. However, these areas have acquired other acceptable titles such as Dulles and Potomac Falls.
Dulles, Virginia (20166) is around one third of the Sterling area which boarders Ashburn and is know as being the partial land owner of the Washington Dulles International Airport. Dulles is the headquarters of Orbital Sciences Corporation and the former home of the AOL headquarters.
