Building Green In Northern VA
You may not consider yourself a “Green Conscious” consumer or environmentally concerned. However, I have yet to meet a someone who isn’t interested in saving money in energy costs.
When it comes it comes to building green, you can take it as far as you would like… from windows, shingles, paint types, counter tops, mattress covers, where your home is located, landscaping, tile flooring, types of hardwood, the wood your home is built from, light bulbs, appliances, insulation, and more things than you could imagine. For some this is extreme and for others this is the only way they would have it. It is your choice.
During the last 10 years our world has become more eco friendly and there are a vast number of resources available to make this process easier as a consumer. There are new laws that are going to in to effect and building standards that can make this process easier for new homes and more difficult for older homes (due to possible updates required prior to selling)…
For Northern VA…
Unless you own your own lot of land in Northern VA outside of an home owners association, you most likely won’t be bringing in your own green builder. While most homes in Northern VA are mass produced, the majority of builders are becoming energy star certified to make their homes a little more eco friendly. If you are buying a new home in today’s market I would make sure that this standard is met for various reasons I will discuss in later articles. Another rating that you can look for is known as LEED certified.

Hi. An interesting article which I will be following in days to come.we have a small joinery business in SW Uk which I have been running for the last 30 years. Things have changed over the last 10 years for the good within the timber world I feel.It has and should become much greener. We all now have every opening to buy our stock from managed forest. We also turn every single peace of our waste timber / sawdust into briquettes for woodburners etc. Yes we make money from the eco side of the business but thats the way to go. Link financial gain with the eco side of life and we all benefit.
Look forward to following your article
