Looking Back On Loudoun In 2008
As I write this post, there is only a little more than five hours left in 2008.
Before we celebrate what can be in 2009, lets take a few minutes to recall some events that Loudoun County will always remember about 2008…
- March 14 – Purcellville Turns 100 Years Old.
- March 27- “Abusive Driver Fees” are repealed in VA.
- March/ Current - Supervisors agree to reconsider Broadlands new hospital application from 2002.
- June- Loudoun Sheriff’s Office agrees to have officers trained to enforce immigration laws.
- September- County says that it faces a $176 million budget shortfall next year.
- September 14- Leesburg turns 250 years old!
- November 4- Loudoun voters vote democratic the first time since 1964.
- December 3- The Dulles rail project gains approval from the FTA.

Many will only remember 2008 as a year of falling home stock values, foreclosures, and elections. However, history can most accurately be judged from a distance. Who knows, this current shaking of our economy could turn out to be the best thing for our country in the long run. I am an idealist.
Happy New Year!
